The President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has said Nigeria also stands culpable in the failed rescue bid that led to the death of a Briton, Chris McManus, and an Italian, Franco Lamolinara, in Sokoto State last week.
Jonathan, in an interview on CNN, said that Nigeria worked with the British and other international intelligence agencies in the failed rescue bid.
He said that if the operation had succeeded, all those involved in the process, including Nigeria, would have been hailed for its success.
Jonathan told CNN: “We worked with the international intelligence system.
“If there was success, there would have been a collective glory.
“Since we did not quite succeed, well, we all take responsibility.
“So I cannot say I will not take part of that responsibility: yes, I do. I’m the president of the country.”
