The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency says it has started moves to shore up its revenue base in order to effectively meet its core obligations to stakeholders.
Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, its Managing Director, said this on Monday in Lagos while receiving the report of its Revenue Mobilisation Committee.
Akinkuotu said the move became imperative owing to the rising commitments of the agency in the areas of upgrading navigational infrastructure, enhancing air traffic management services, building staff capacity as well as other personnel costs.
He said the NAMA management would carefully study the report with a view to implementing relevant aspects.
According to him, “an improvement in the revenue profile of the agency will translate to a more robust NAMA, discharging its functions in a more efficient manner”.
He, however, enjoined staff to be more prudent and avoid wastages in order to make this dream realisable.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that in the quest to improve its revenue generation capacity, NAMA recently inaugurated a Revenue Mobilisation Committee.
The committees’ core terms of reference was to extensively deliberate on the agency’s statutory revenue sources and develop strategies for more effective ways of revenue generation and collection.
The committee, which sat between February and April, came up with recommendations like improvement on the frequency of stakeholder engagement, especially on matters of service delivery.
Other recommendations include: media enlightenment of customers through various platforms, provision of incentives for prompt payment by customers and improvement on the agency’s e-payment platform, including deployment of Point of Sales in all revenue payment points nationwide.
It also recommended that NAMA should be in constant liaison with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and other stakeholders on matters relating to review of charges.
