As campaigns for the 2015 elections intensify, the President of the Senate, David Mark, on Monday said the future of the country lies in the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party and not the opposition.
Mark said the PDP’s campaign is issues based and that the country needs to be in secure and safe hands.
He said this during the flag off campaign of the Niger State governorship candidate, Hon. Umar Nasko, in Kotangora, Niger State.
According to Mark: “PDP belongs to all of us.
“We want you to vote en-mass for all our candidates from Presidency to the state House of Assembly.
“Make sure, come February, you vote for the PDP because the future of the country is in the hands of PDP.
“Our campaign is based on issue.
“We talk about what we have done and we talk about what we are going to do.
“We must vote for those who will take you beyond where you are now.
“Vote Umar Nasko so that he can continue on the good works of Governor Babangida Aliyu.”
Aliyu also charged Nigerlites to shun all forms of violence before, during and after the elections, adding: “Whatever result comes out, the people must accept.”
Accordingly, he said: “If you die, you will die as a result of political violence and not by the grace of God.
“We will ensure that during our campaign, there will be no character assassination, no abuse, no violence, but we will campaign from house to house.”
Earlier in his speech, Nasko called on all aggrieved members to join hands with him to succeed.
He added that continuity is important in any government, promising to consolidate on the vision 3-20-20 of Governor Aliyu.
He further charged Nigerlites to ensure they cast their votes for the PDP and also remind the government to build on the dividends of democracy.
Among dignitaries present were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed; Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang; Deputy Governors of Kogi State (Yomi Awoniyi), Nasarawa State (Luka Daminish) and Benue State (Steven Lawani); and Senator Zainab Kure.
