Late arrival of materials can lead to loss of confidence in electoral process – Deputy Governor

The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has decried late arrival of materials to polling centres in Saturday’s council polls in the state, saying it could affect integrity of the exercise.
Shaibu, who voted at 1.12pm at Unit 5, Ward 11, Azama Primary School, Etsako West Local Government Area, advised the state’s electoral body to guard against such occurrence in future polls.
He pointed out that the situation was capable of making the electorate to lose confidence in the electoral process.
The deputy governor, however, expressed pleasure with peaceful conduct of the election, saying it was without reports of violence or malpractice.

Some of the voters attributed the situation of boycott of the polls by the Peoples Democratic Party, the main opposition and division within the ruling All Progressives Congress.
One of the voters, Patrick Itsabemoh, told NAN that said aside PDP’s boycott of the elections, aggrieved aspirant of APC, who lost in the primaries, refused to mobilize their supporters for the polls.
But, another voter, Elizabeth Oshobugie, said that the low turnout could be traced to poor voter education by relevant agencies.
According to her, there were no proper campaigns by political parties and no awareness by relevant government organs ahead of the election.
