The Lagos State Government says it is ready to partner with the Association of Nigeria Journalists and Writers of Tourism to further explore the tourism potential of the state.
Shuli Adebolu, the newly appointed Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, said this during a courtesy visit to the Ministry at the state secretariat, Alausa in Ikeja by ANJET members.
Adebolu said it was now a new dawn for tourism development for the people of the state in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Arts and Culture, Bonu Solomon Saanu, joined the Commissioner to receive the ANJET members.
Adebolu said the partnership with the travel writers would help her ministry to achieve the new mandate given to it by the governor.
She said: “My mandate from Govenor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is very clear and it is to ensure that we achieve success in making Lagos the number one tourism and entertainment centre of the world.
“Therefore, it is now a new dawn for tourism in Lagos in terms of driving development and we are prepared to turn things around, both inside and outside.”
She said tourism was the next revenue base of the state.
The vision, according to her, was to be the top tourist destination in the world.
She called on the members of ANJET to partner with her in achieving this goal as the role of the media was very crucial, especially that of the travel and tourism writers.
Adebolu said: “ANJET is essential in putting the state on the global tourism map and earning her visibility, hence the need to collaborate with the body in the discharge of her mandate.
“My office is open to you.
“We are also set to unveil the agenda of the tourism and culture ministry in the coming days.”
As part of the partnership, the Commissioner pledged the support of the Ministry toward the successful hosting of the body’s tourism seminar scheduled for next month.
Earlier, Andrew Okungbowa, ANJET President, congratulated the commissioner on her appointment.
Okungbowa said the association would work with her office toward achieving the state government’s mandate and vision on tourism development.
He said that ANJET would ensure the success of the newly-forged partnership with all the seriousness it deserves.
