The Kwara State University will on November 27 confer honorary doctorate degrees on three personalities for their contribution to humanity.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, listed former Ghanaian President, John Kufuor; CEO and founder of GTBank, Tajudeen Adeola; and an Ilorin Dadakuada exponent, Aminu Jaigbade, as recipients.
Na’Allah said the recipients were picked based on their contribution to humanity and not due to their contribution to the institution.
He said: “We are rewarding individuals that have carried out selfless service to the society in line with the values that guide us as an institution.
“Kufuor as former Ghanaian president is a unique African leader that did so much for the continent.
“He brought in a system that allowed his people have trust in democracy and even as a former president, he still serves his people with dignity.
“So, he deserves all the accolades Africa can give, so he will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration.”
The vice chancellor added that Adeola of GTBank represented the institution’s virtue of creating something from almost an impossible situation.
He said: “The bank has been revolutionary as they started few years ago and instantly spread across all other banks and has been making waves since then.
“So, we see it as necessary being an institution for entrepreneurship to confer him with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Entrepreneurship.”
Na’Allah said the Dadakuada exponent, Jaigbade, demonstrated total commitment to culture, tradition and values, which align with the institution’s vision that indigenous values should not contradict modernisation.
He said: “The dadakuada exponent represents the kind of African tradition that young people must imbibe.
“So, he will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Literature.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the special convocation is the first in the school’s history since its establishment in 2009.
