President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Saturday thanked Nigerians for their prayers for the nation
Speaking during a church service for the dedication of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, the President particularly thanked God and the Christian community, urging the latter to continue to pray for the leadership of the country to move the nation in the right direction.
“Please continue to pray and we in government will continue to do our best and ensure that Nigeria moves forward,” he told the congregation.
Jonathan, who stressed that he did not spend his personal money in building this church in his village, thanked all his friends who contributed towards the building.
The Anglican Bishop of Ogbia Diocese, Rt. Rev. James Oruwori, in his sermon, commended Jonathan and his family for building a house of prayer for the Lord, noting that “wise men build houses of prayer.”
He also declared that the detractors of this administration will always fail because the church is always praying.
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State commended Jonathan “for all the wonderful projects” he had initiated in the state even as he pledged the support of the state government.
Earlier, Jonathan had performed the ground-breaking ceremony of a 2,500-seat capacity St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke, which he hoped will be completed by mid-2015.
Governors of Rivers, Edo, Anambra, Kogi States, deputy governors and captains of industry and bank executives also graced the occasion.
Also on Saturday, the President attended the state congress of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
Among those there were Dickson and a former Managing Director of the NDDC, Chief Timi Alaibe.
The national convention of the party will hold in abuja on Saturday.
