The organisers of the ongoing 15th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship on Thursday said that they were planning to have an exhibition game for journalists and some sports’ personalities.
Wale Oladunjoye, the tournament’s Technical Director, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria, said it was part of the activities to make the closing ceremony memorable.
Oladunjoye said the media tennis game would now be an annual event along with the Governor’s Cup.
He said the tournament, which would hold at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan in Lagos on Saturday, would mark the end of the championship.
According to Oladunjoye, efforts are being made to get ex-international, Austin Okocha, and the current Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, to make special appearances at the tourney.
He said this initiative was part of efforts to encourage media professionals to play tennis as a form of recreation.
Oladunjoye said the exhibition game would also create a window to add glamour to the reportage of the Governor’s Cup.
He said the media tennis tourney had been scheduled for between 9am and 11am on the final day of the championship.
NAN reports that some notable journalists and sports personalities had indicated interests to participate.
Ex-international, Segun Odegbami, Ejiro Omonode, Fred Edore, Ganiyu Salman and Ifeanyi Ibeh are among media men that have registered for the game.
