Governor’s Cup: Shehu Lawal vows to stop Indian star

Nigeria’s Shehu Lawal has expressed determination to coast past tournament number three seeded player, Jeevan Nedunchezhyan, in the second round at the Futures 2 of the ongoing Lagos Governor’s Cup Tennis competition.
Lawal, who out stroke his Nigerian counterpart, Sanni Adamu, in the first round on Monday, is waxing lyrical on breaking records and also sailing into the final of the competition.
His words: “I expect a good match against the Indian boy, Jeevan Nedunchezhyan.
“I’m not scared of him being the third seed of the competition, but will play my game against him.”
In other men’s singles today, Nigeria’s Kehinde Alade will slug it out with South African and tournament’s number six seeded player, Ruan Roelofse.
Theophilous Segodo of Benin will have hand his hands full with Futures 1 winner and number one seed, Borna Coric, of Croatia.
Nina Bratchikova of Russia will try Jasmin Steinherr of Germany for size.
Simmonds Channel of South Africa takes on Giora Barbieri of Germany, Dalila jakupovic of Slovakia battles Anna Morgina of Russia, while Christina Dinu of Romania engages Maria Sakkari of Greece in the women’s singles games.
In some of the men’s singles first round games decided on Monday, Andre Gaspar Murta of Portugal beat Samuel Omoile 6-3, 6-3; Ranjeet Verali Muguresan of India sent packing Josep Imeh-Ubon by 7-5, 4-6, 6-0; Ruan Roelofse of South Africa dismissed Nonso Madueke 6-1, 6-3; Borna Coric of Croatia battered Emmanuel Idoko 6-1, 6-1; and Alexis kleodu of Benin defeated Mark Fynn of Zimbabwe 6-3, 6-4.
Cristina Dinu of Romania disgraced Aminat Quadri 6-0, 6-0; Tadeja Majeric out stroke Blessing Anuna 6-0, 6-0; Dalila Jakupovic of Slovakia defeated Sarah Adegoke 6-0, 6-1; Channel Simmonds of South Africa beat Rishka Sunkara of India 6-3, 6-3; Noami Broady of Britain emerged victorious over Smriti Joon of India 6-2, 6-1; and Swiss Conny Perrin also defeated Nidhi Chimula of India 6-1, 6-1 in the women’s singles.
In the women’s doubles, Nigeria’s duo of Ronke Akingbade and Blessing Anuna surrendered to the firing power of Ester Masuri of Israel and Xi-Yao Wang of China.
