An aide to Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State on Tuesday lamented that over 24 per cent of successful applicants for the N-Power job in Bauchi State had failed to appear for screening.
Alhaji Mansur Manu-Soro, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Development Partners and also the Focal Person on Social Investment Programmes, told the News Agency of Nigeria that such attitude by the youth was regrettable.
Manu-Soro said 5,188 applicants from the state were successful, but upon conclusion of first round of verification, 3,933 applicants attended the screening, out of which 3,697 were cleared and 236 disqualified.
The aide said as part of efforts to ensure that none of the slots allocated to the state was wasted, a second round of screening was organised to carter for the absentees, but the outcome was still not encouraging.
Manu-Sor said: “We have been partnering with local government chairmen to mobilise all successful applicants from their areas.
“It is unfortunate that some youth have allowed such a golden opportunity to waste, especially in this era of economic recession and limited job opportunities.”
He therefore urged such applicants to avail themselves of the opportunity to empower themselves economically by starting with the N-Power programme.
Meanwhile, Manu-Soro said the list of the 3697 successful applicants screened, had been sent to the appropriate authorities for the processing of their December 2016 allowance.
