A close business and political ally of former Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, Apagun Wole Olumide, has allegedly committed suicide.
Olumide was said to have drowned himself in the river beside the Golf Resort Hotels, initially owned by Daniel, but which the Ogun State Government has taken over as a public trust because the funds used for it were alleged to be state funds.
It was gathered that Olumide committed suicide at about 11pm on Friday.
However, even as information still remains sketchy as at press time, the news of the alleged suicide only filtered in at about 12.30am today.
Olumide’s driver reportedly drove him to the Golf Resort Hotel, located in the heart of the state capital, Abeokuta.
But there are fears that Olumide, the Chairman of the Golf Resort Hotels, could have been murdered and his body dumped at the Golf Resort Hotels, which has become the source of friction between the Ogun State Government and Daniel, who is still contesting the decision to convert it to a public trust.
Described by many as easy going, Olumide was a major force in the political movement of Daniel, though said not to have grassroots support.
But in terms of business acumen, Olumide, from Abeokuta, reportedly possessed a lot of it.
The Eagle Online gathered that the police investigation into the case has commenced.
It is being handled by the headquarters of the Ogun State Police Command in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
A source at the headquarters in Eleweran told The Eagle Online that the police will leave nothing to chance in unearthing the truth about the death of Olumide.
As at press time, police had just recovered Olumide’s body.
This was about 9.02am.
The body was recovered by local divers, sources in Abeokuta told The Eagle Online.
