The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Osun State, Muhmmad Husaini, says the commission will deploy 1,550 officers during the August 9 governorship election in the state.
Husaini made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo on Monday.
According to him, the FRSC Headquarters will send in 1,000 officers to add up to 550 officers already in the state to provide security during the state election on August 9.
He said the commission’s Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, had approved 60 patrol cars, five ambulances and 20 power bikes for easy movement during and after the election.
The sector commander said the commission had released six out of these patrol cars to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the election to assist them in the movement of election materials.
Husaini said: “The commission believes in free, fair, transparent and credible election and we have been re-energised to help INEC achieve a credible election.”
Husaini said the patrol vehicles would be used on the eight entry points into the state.
He pointed out that marshals would be on the road as early as 6am to ensure restriction of vehicular movement into the state.
“In addition, the patrol vehicles will also be used to enforce the restriction of both movement of vehicles and people and control traffic on the day of the election,” he said.
He said officers would also be deployed to sensitive areas in the state where heavy traffic flows were recorded to enforce the no movement order and law.
He, therefore, called on the people of Osun State to continue to uphold the culture of good motoring and obey other rules and regulations.
Husaini said the FRSC was collaborating with other security agencies and would report any breach of law to the appropriate security operatives.
