Five persons died and 52 others sustained injuries in an accident on Sunday at Gora village in Malumfashi Local Government of Katsina State.
Malam Muhammad Tijjani, the Federal Road Safety Corps Commander in Malunfashi, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Tijjani said the incident occurred at about 10am.
It involved a truck conveying over 100 people.
The commander said the truck was coming back from Gombe State, where the people attended the annual Maulud Celebrations commemorating the birth day of popular Islamic Scholar, late Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass.
Nyass was a Senegalese and grand leader of Tijjaniyya Tariqa Sufi adherents and Vicegerents of popular late Sheikh Ahmad Tijjany, the founder of the Islamic sect.
He said the victims were going to their home town, Bakori, headquarters of Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to Tijjani, the victims were transported to the Malumfashi General Hospital for treatment while the dead bodies were received by the respective family members for burial.
