Five people died while 28 others sustained injuries in an auto crash on the Zanbuk-Lubo Road in Yamaltu Local Government Area of Gombe State on Wednesday.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Gombe State, Galadima Kuteb, who confirmed the incident, said that before FRSC officers came to the scene, the police had assisted in rescuing some of the victims.
Malam Sani Abdullahi, one of the survivors, said that the accident occurred on their way to attend a wedding ceremony.
Abdullahi said that he did not know the cause of the crash but that he just found himself in hospital receiving treatment.
An officer in the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, Malam Baba Adamu, also confirmed that five persons died while 28 others were receiving treatment.
Adamu said that three of the victims were brought in dead while two later died in the hospital.
“We are going to admit about five of them while the others would be treated and discharged to go home,” he said.
