The Federal Executive Council will tomorrow consider for approval a proposal for the printing of 40 million permanent voters’ cards for Nigerians.
Before now, Nigerians have been making use of temporary voters’ cards for elections in the country.
In the last few years, voters’ registration exercises have been carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission, with temporary cards issued to voters.
The printing of the voters’ cards, which awaits presidential approval, is one of the issues for consideration by the FEC.
According to the schedule of the meeting obtained by The Eagle Online, the FEC is also to seek presidential approval for the implementation of a blueprint for the education of albinos in the country.
The Minister of Education is to brief Council on it tomorrow.
The meeting is also to consider contracts in respect of infrastructural development projects for the Niger Delta Development Commission.
It is a memorandum to be presented by the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
The desire of the Nigeria Customs Service to acquire patrol boats and spare parts for its operations will also be brought up for discussion during tomorrow’s FEC meeting.
The Minister of the Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will brief the Council on this.
Okonjo-Iweala is also to bring up for discussion the issue of the award of contract for the construction of senior management quarters in Jabi, Abuja tomorrow at the FEC meeting.
