A staff who said he was owed several months by his company has cleverly taken over N8 million goods from his company and declared the money that accrued from the sales of the goods was for his salary arrears.
Adeboye Adefolahan, 40, alleged that he obtained a credit to the tune of N8,159,684.00 from his employers and since he was unable to pay back, he told his company to use the money to cover salaries owed him.
Adefolahan, who is a staff with Justine Pharmaceutical Company Limited, said he was owed several months of salaries by the firm.
Appearing before an Ikeja Magistrates Court in Lagos on Monday, the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Samson Ekikere, explained that Adefolahan was arrested and arraigned in court because he had on March 8, 2010 deceived the company into obtaining goods valued at the said amount on credit.
Ekikere said the offence is punishable under Section 312(b) vol. 44 No. 11 Law of Lagos State.
Quoting from the charge sheet No. MIK/A/129/14, Ekikere said the accused on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Lagos State magisterial district did commit stealing and punishable under section 285 (i) vol. 44, No. 11 Law of Lagos, 2011.
Ekikere told the court that the severity of the charges was further highlighted after the accused issued a cheque to the company when he knew he had no money in his account.
“The cheque when presented for payment was dishonoured on grounds that no funds were available. This offence also punishable under section 319 of the law of Lagos,” said the prosecutor.
The case was adjourned till January 28, 2015.
