The Chairman of Cross River Anti- Tax Agency, Bishop Emma Isong says the state Task Force and Special Mobile Court on illegal taxation will begin operation on September 18.
Isong said this on Tuesday in an interaction with journalists in Calabar.
According to him, the task force and mobile court will be working hand in hand to ensure the success of the state government’s intention towards freeing the state from multiple taxation.
“The task force is made up of representatives of the Police, Nigeria Civil Defense and Security Corps among others.
“The law on mobile court has been approved by the State House of Assembly and State Attorney General’s Office, so it will be working hand in hand with the task force.
“They will start full operation across the state, by Friday, everything is set for the take off, ” he said.
Isong, who is the General Overseer of Christian Central Chapel, Calabar, expressed displeasure over the continued presence of illegal tax collectors in the state in spite of the government’s rebate aimed at assisting the poor.
“We are determined to ensure that those who flout the law on illegal taxation are punished accordingly, ” he said.
