An FCT High Court, Gudu, on Tuesday adjourned until February 28, the adoption of final written addresses in former Taraba Governor Jolly Nyame’s alleged N1.64 billion fraud case.
Nyame was docked by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on a 21-count charge, bordering on misappropriation of Taraba funds to the tune of N1.64 billion, while in office.
Justice Adebukola Banjoko, adjourned the case to give the prosecution and defence time to complete the processes.
The prosecution filed their final written address on January 10, 2018, while the defence filed theirs in November, 2017.
The defence counsel, Hassan Fagimite, told the court that they could not file their reply on point of law because the “prosecution filed their written address out of time’’.
He also said that their time for reply was not ripe because the prosecution did not regularise the process.
The EFCC prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs, represented by Henry Ejiga, had blamed the delay on “personal challenges’’ he was facing.
After listening to the submissions, the judge ordered the parties to submit their replies on point of law before February 28 for adoption.
