A former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Chief Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has advised the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, to relinquish his position.
Recall that several persons, especially of South West origin, have told Ayu to relinquish his position as National Chairman.
Their position has been based on the principle of fairness and equity.
They have argued that it was not justifiable for both the candidate of the party for the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, and Ayu to be from the North.
Despite the resignation of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Walid Jibrin and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, the insistence is that the position of the national chairman cannot be equated with any of the two.
Reacting to this at a news conference held at the office of the party’s leader in Lagos State, Chief Olabode George, Bucknor-Akerele said having worked with Ayu in the past in the Senate, she knew him as an honourable man.
She therefore advised him to remain so.
She said: “I want to appeal to Ayu not to allow those elements who do not wish Nigeria and the party well to influence him.
“The BoT chairman was forced to resign.
“They think we in the West are stupid.
“Ayu, you were a honourable man as Senate President.
“Please be honourable too now.”
