Though the suicide bombers did not get to their target destination, the explosive was said to have gone off at a congested junction, leading to the death of many.
It was learnt that the bomb went off at Sardauna Crescent, which is quite close to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, an area usually clustered by commercial motorcyclists.
The commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, were the worst hit.
Scores of them and other passers by were reported to have been killed.
The suicide bombers also did not escape though they made an attempt to abandon the car in which the explosive was planted.
Those at the scene of the incident now said the suicide bombers were severed just like those close to where the bomb exploded.
The belief is that the suicide bombers were headed for one of the churches close to where the expolosive device went off.
But on sensing that the device was going to detonate, the suicide bombers attempted to flee the car.
They however did not go too far in their escape bid.
