The hopes of the Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, who is of the Peoples Democratic Party, to emerge as the senator representing Niger East Senatorial District at the National Assembly has been dashed as the All Progressives Congress candidate, Barrister David Umaru, led with a wide margin on Sunday.leads with a wide margin.
While announcing the results at the senatorial election collation centre at the College of Education, Minna on Sunday night, the Returning Officer for Niger East Senatorial District, Prof. Ali Audu Jigam of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, said in Chanchaga Local Government Area, the APC Umaru scored 49,519 votes while Aliyu got 17,209 votes.
The APC candidate got 18,887 votes in Gurara Local Government Area to defeat the PDP candidate who scored 6,520 votes, while in Shiroro Local Government Area, APC polled 27,191 votes as against 7,519 votes for PDP.
In Tafa Local Government Area, the garrulous governor was defeated by the APC with 17,596 votes to 8,151 votes scored by the PDP, while in Bosso Local Government Area, it was a landslide victory for the APC candidate with 36,250 voters over PDP that got 7,060 votes.
Umaru also extended his winning streak to Munya Local Government Area from where he polled 13,666 votes over PDP with 6,635 votes for the governor.
In Suleja, the stronghold of the PDP, APC scored 34,326, while PDP got 12,648 votes.
As at the time of filing this report, two local governments of Paikoro and Rafi local governments were yet to arrive at the collation centre.
However, with the results from the nine local governments that make up the Niger East Senatorial District, also known as zone B, the APC supporters have started jubilating over the successful outing of the party and its candidate in the senatorial election, with the defeat of the governor.
