Information reaching The Eagle Online has it that the remains of former Governor Gbenga Daniel’s ally who died in controversial circumstances on Friday, Apagun Wole Olumide, is to be buried on Monday (today) without autopsy.
Sources in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, told The Eagle Online that the position of the hospital where his remains has been since it was recovered from the artificial lake at the Golf Resort Hotel, is that since the family did not request for an autopsy to be conducted on Olumide, it was not in a position to do so.
It was gathered that a wake was held for Olumide on Sunday evening (yesterday), with the burial slated for today.
Olumide died in controversial circumstances on Friday at the artificial lake located in the Golf Resort Hotel, which he sat atop as chairman before the Ogun State Government took it over as a public trust because of allegations that Daniel used state resources in the construction of the 150-room hotel.
A preliminary report by the police on the cause of the death showed there was no mark of violence on his body.
The report, by the Commissioner, Ogun State Police Command, Okoye Ikemefuna, reads: “Available information has it that the deceased went to the lakeside of the Resort behind the State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, with his driver at about 19.30hrs (7.30pm).
“He later sent his driver back on errand to his house at Ita- Eko, Surulere area of Abeokuta.
“When the driver came back, the Chief could not be located but his shoes and cap were found by the lakeside.
“A search party was immediately drafted to the scene. The search continued till about 01hrs (1am) of 17 March, 2012 without success.
“However, at about 6hrs (6am), the search resumed and the body of the deceased was recovered at about 9hrs (9am). The body was viewed and no mark of violence was observed.”
