Anenih resigns as PDP’s BOT chairman ahead of NWC’s decision

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih, has resigned.

Anenih’s resignation is coming ahead of Thursday’s expected pronouncement of the party’s National Working Committee on his status in the party.

The NWC had on Wednesday said it would on Thursday make its position known on the status of Anenih in the party.

But in a move seen as averting the expected outcome of ousting him as the chairman of the BOT, Anenih resigned on Wednesday.

The announcement of Anenih’s resignation came a few hours after the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Adewale Oladipo, said the NWC would on Thursday take a position on Anenih’s status.

Oladipo said of the resignation of Anenih: “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has received the resignation of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of our great party on personal grounds.

“In accepting the resignation the NWC noted the outstanding contributions of Chief Anenih in the party over the years especially in his capacity as the Board of Trustees Chairman.

“As one of the founding fathers of the PDP, the NWC appreciates Chief Anenih’s guiding role in the party in the last 16 years and wish him well in his future endeavours.

“Consequent upon the resignation, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin holds forth pending the election of a new BoT Chairman.”
