With barely 120 days to the governorship election in Edo State, kinsmen of Maj-Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (rtd), the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the state, weekend, resolved to vote for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria come July 14.
In an address presented by the Agbodo Community in Egor Local Government Area, during a reception for Oshiomhole, the Secretary of the Community, Bright Ogiewonyi, stated that they have adopted the governor as the grand patron of the community and by implication a son of the soil.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary of Oshiomhole, Peter Okhiria, Ogiewonyi was quoted to have said: “For the avoidance of doubt, let us make it categorically clear that we also have a son from this community whose biological father, late P.E.A. Airhiavbere is an indigene of Agbodo Community and was the immediate past chairman of the Community Development Association, CDA and he gave birth to Gen. Charles Airhiavbere who incidentally is also running as candidate on the platform of the PDP. Agbodo Community have resolved unanimously to reject their kinsman to vote for Oshio Baba on July 14th Governorship election without apology or explanations.”
According to the community, as a mark of honour and respect, one of the streets in Agodo has been named Adams Oshiomhole Way and all the necessary street naming documents would be perfected with ocal government.
They noted that, no doubt, every right thinking people of Edo State, having seen the development strides since Oshiomhole re-claimed his stolen mandate from the PDP, does not need to be told that he is on a rescue mission.
“If we have to assess your report card since assumption of office across the three senatorial districts of Edo State, projects by projects sectorially, it will take days, months and years. By simple definition, it is uncountable, we say kudos and ride on Oshio Baba,” they added.
The Agbodo Community further noted: “For transforming Edo State to a centre for tourist attractions within this three years under review, we have neither gold nor silver to pay you back, but we assure you that our appreciation will manifest in July 14th governorship election as our community will return all our votes in your favour and we also want to feature during your swearing in ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium after the declaration of your result and remain re-elected.”
Oshiomhole, who was given a rousing welcome into Agbodo Community by the enthusiastic crowd, apparently overwhelmed by the reception, assured them that the state government will construct a primary school of the same quality standard across the state before the end of the year and two transformers will be delivered to the community this week.
According to the governor, the water borehole drilling rig, which is used to drill boreholes in other parts of the state, will be deployed to the community to provide water for the people and the construction of access road will be included in next year’s budget.
