Over 10 persons have been confirmed dead in the bomb explosion that occurred this morning in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
It was gathered that the remains of those who died as a result of the explosion, which occurred at the roundabout of the headquarters of the Taraba State Police Command, had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo.
Sources said that the blast, which occurred at about 9:30am, was targeted at the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mahman Sule, who was on his way to the office.
Sule’s outrider was said to have been seriously injured in the blast.
The CP’s car, a BMW, was also reported to be seriously damaged.
Sule, however, escaped unhurt.
Sule put the casualty figure at three, with several injured.
But the explosion, carried out by suspected suicide bombers on a motorcycle, it was learnt, has resulted in the death of over 10 persons, with no fewer than 15 seriously injured.
One of those who died was part of the team that detonated the explosive.
At the FMC, medical officials were seen battling to save those who sustained injuries.
It was learnt that police bomb experts are already on their way to Jalingo to assess the situation.
