All is now set for the conferment of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State with Champion newspapers 2011 ‘Man of the Year’.
The award will hold on May 15, 2012 at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
Governor Oshiomhole, who had already confirmed the acceptance of the award, is the second Action Congress of Nigeria governor to be given the award after Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, was conferred with it last year.
The choice of Governor Oshiomhole was hinged on his performance in the last three years of his administration.
Indeed, the people of Edo State are appreciative of their Governor, whom they now refer to as ‘Oshio Baba’ for his giant strides in the development of the state.
It is believed that his efforts have transformed the state in the areas of health, education, agriculture, employment generation and youth development, social infrastructure, sports, urban renewal and security of lives and property.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Mr. Louis Odion, has expressed the willingness of the Comrade Governor to personally come to receive the award.
Odion said the award, coming from a reputable organisation as Champion newspapers, is an indication that Governor Oshiomhole has proven critics wrong that nothing is happening in Edo State .
Expected to grace the occasion, whose host is the Executive Chairman of Champion newspapers, Chief (Dr.) Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, are politicians, business and industry captains, members of the diplomatic corps and top public servants, among others.
A statement by Mr. Luke Okoro, Managing Editor of the company, also quoted the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Mrs. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, as saying that the choice of Oshiomhole as the ‘Champion 2011 Man of The year’, was a product of an independent investigation of his performance since he assumed office three years ago.
