Gunmen have killed the Divisional Police Officer of Orji River, Enugu State, Okey Ofoedu.
Ofoedu was killed on Saturday at about 6:30pm at Ojinator, along the Awka/Orji River Road.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, the late DPO was returning from a function when he was shot.
Ofoedu, a Superintendent of Police, later died in the hospital.
Amaraizu said the suspicion remains that the late DPO was trailed to the spot where he was shot by his assailants who operated in a Passat car.
He said that investigation into the killing had commenced.
He also disclosed that the Commissioner in charge of the state Command, Musa A. Daura, described the incident as unfortunate.
He said Daura has promised that the Command, in partnership with other relevant security agencies and stakeholders, would do everything possible to track down the assailants and bring them to book.
