A group within the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, the PDP Synergy League, has enjoined the state Governor, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi, to pay the new minimum wage being demanded by the workers of the state civil service who have declared a trade dispute over it.
The PDP Synergy Group said it is better to meet the demands of the striking workers instead of threatening them with sack.
In a statement by Dotun Oyelade, the group described as “bereft” the threat by the state government to sack the workers.
The statement said in part: “Rather than issuing threats that it can never carry out, the government should implement the new salary regime and stop deploying half-truth to circumvent its implementation.”
The statement described Ajimobi’s parley with the workers on Monday as ill-advised and a circus show, adding that this accounted for why the meeting achieved the opposite of what government wanted.
The group said the state government can conveniently pay the new wage bill without breaking the bank.
It challenged the government to “name the so-called 190 roads it has embarked upon.”
It said the roads were mere media creation.
