British Airways has defended itself of allegation that it charges Nigerians different fares from those of other countries.
The carrier said what operates in Nigeria is competitive when compared with other African countries.
According to a statement signed by BA’s media consultant, Quadrant, the airline said it is committed to Nigeria and had not violated any of its Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the country.
The statement reads in part: “British Airways is fully legally compliant with the requirements of the Air Services Agreement between the UK and Nigeria.
“We remain committed to Nigeria and continue to serve the country with daily flights to Lagos and Abuja.
“We have been flying there for more than 75 years and pride ourselves on offering competitive fares, a choice of products and connections to our Nigerian customers.
“All of our fares are set on a sound commercial basis and remain fully competitive with other carriers in the region including Arik Air.”
Nigeria, through the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, had accused BA and Virgin Atlantic of operating discriminatory airfares in the country.
The airlines were thus given 30 days within which to redress what was considered an imbalance.
