The Oyo State Government has declared that the strike action declared by the workers in the state, under the aegis of the Oyo State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council, is illegal.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Akin Olajide.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi had on Monday held an interactive session with workers at the House of Chiefs within the Secretariat premises on the state of the economy.
The governor offered the least paid staff on GL 01, who used to earn N10,876.47 the sum of N19,987, and the highest paid staff on GL 17, who used to earn N72,004, N139,440.55.
But the workers, rising from its congress after the interactive session, rejected the salary table presented by the government, calling on its members to immediately embark on strike.
The Oyo State Government reiterated that the amount it was offering the 38,185 workers represented the total sum of 92 per cent of its total income and would not bend backwards further.
It stated that it would not borrow a dime to pay the state workforce and restated its commitment to the six million citizens of the state, whom it had sworn to change their lives through massive provision of infrastructure and lifting the quality of their lives.
The government also said it would not hesitate to invoke the No work No Pay rule on any worker who failed to report at his duty post, stating that it had opened a register for all workers in its employ and would deal decisively with absentees.
The statement also warned that any of the workers found molesting law-abiding fellow workers would be decisively dealt with as government would not stand by and watch any externally-instigated person disrupt activities in the state.
