There are fears that a Deputy Inspector General of Police (names withheld pending confirmation) has died in a helicopter crash in Jos, Plateau State.
The helicopter, which belongs to the police crashed in the centre of the town, close to the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, a source said.
Another source, however, said it crashed specifically at the Government Secondary School, Kabong, Jos.
Both locations are within the same vicinity.
It was gathered that no one has been allowed near the scene of the crash as arrangements are still being made with the Jos University Teaching Hospital for the evacuation of casualties in the crash.
The helicopter, which belongs to the Nigeria Police, is being used by the special Task Force put together by the Federal Government to contain the crisis in Jos.
It was gathered that residents had been complaining about the manner the helicopter had been flown in the last few days, especially yesterday.
A source in Jos said the chopper, used for aeriel surveillance by the STF, “had been flying dangerously low in the last few days.
“Yesterday was the worse as it flew at a low level that made it look like it was going to crash into houses in our area.”
