Thirty-one persons believed to be illegal immigrants from Niger Republic have been apprehended by the police in Lagos on suspicion that they are members of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
The suspects were arrested when the lorry conveying them was intercepted at Berger area of the state at the weekend.
The lorry, it was gathered, was coming from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, when policemen from Ketu Police Station, who were on patrol of the area, arrested them and took them to their station for interrogation.
The policemen conducted a thorough search on the vehicle to acertain if they were travelling with weapons such as explosives.
The illegal immigrants, who looked unkempt in dirty clothes, could hardly speak English but spoke in Hausa language that they were in Lagos to work.
The suspects were later transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, for further interrogation.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Jaiyeoba Joseph, confirmed the arrest.
Joseph said the suspects have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
