Contrary to the impression that the meeting scheduled by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Rivers State, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, had been cancelled, the governors still met in Abuja on Wednesday.
The meeting, attended by 15 of the governors loyal to Amaechi, was held at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Amaechi called the meeting to coincide with a dinner organised by President Goodluck Jonathan for the governors at the Presidential Villa.
The dinner started at 8pm, the same time the governors met.
Those present at the meeting were the governors of Nasarawa, Niger, Kano, Lagos, Ogun, Jigawa, Edo, Zamfara, Rivers, Adamawa, Sokoto, Ekiti, and Imo States.
Those of Osun and Borno States sent their deputies.
Those believed to be loyal to the Amaechi but absent were the governors of Yobe, Oyo, Kwara and Kebbi States.
The 15 governors however suspended their meeting at exactly 8.12pm and left for President Jonathan’s dinner.
Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, before departing, told newsmen: “If we finish the dinner on time, we’ll come back to resume our meeting but if not, we’ll stay with the President
