MFM FC on Wednesday failed to reclaim top spot in the Nigeria league after they were pegged back by visiting Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw inside a packed Agege Stadium in Lagos.
MFM are tied on the same 14 points with Rangers, who also lost 1-3 at Lobi Stars on Wednesday.
Stanley Okorom put MFM ahead in the 28th minute when he fired home from top of the box and his shot took a slight deflection before it wrong footed goalkeeper David Obiazor.
Pillars drew level from the penalty spot after 67 minutes when Prince Aggreh was brought down Bashirou Monsuru inside the box.
Skipper Rabiu Ali converted the penalty.
In the second half, Pillars chased the game and were denied several times by the MFM goalkeeper, before they won the penalty from which Rabiu Ali fired home the leveler.
Ifeanyi Ifeanyi’s free kick in stoppage time came off the post for the MFM to record the home draw.
Niger Tornadoes also made the most of home advantage to beat Shooting Stars 2-1 in Lokoja.
IfeanyiUbah’s home win has catapulted them to second place on the table with 13 points and a better goals difference than MFM.
There were three goalless draws on the day – Wikki Tourists held Abia Warriors to a scoreless draw in Umuahia, Rivers United were held by Sunshine Stars in Port Harcourt and Akwa United were pegged back by Warri Wolves.
Giwa United were also held to a 1-1 draw by El Kanemi in Jos.
Rivers United fired blanks in a drab contest against Sunshine Stars at the Yakubu Gowon (former Port Harcourt Liberation) Stadium.
Meanwhile, there will be two matches on Thursday – Enyimba at home against Plateau United and Nasarawa up against Ikorodu United.
