24 police officers promoted to rank of CSP

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, on Friday decorated 24 new Chief Superintendents of Police in the Lagos State Police Command.
The officers were promoted from the rank of Superintendent of Police following the approval of the Police Service Commission.
The ceremony, which took place at the police headquarters, Ikeja, was a great joy for the officers who had waited fervently for years to be elevated to their new rank.
It was gathered that officers face stunted promotion in the police due to bureaucracy and favouritism.
The officers, who spoke on the condition on anonymity, said promotion in the police is not usually based on merit and years of service.
One of them said: “There are some people, like the present Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, who rose to become CSP in a short time while some of his course mates are still SPs.
“Others are CPs while their mates are still CSPs.
“There are a lot of officers in the CSP cadre who ought to have been promoted to Area Commanders.
“Some have been there for more than 10 years and they are frustrated.
“It’s by luck, God’s grace and who you know that gets you promoted, not necessarily by hard work or long years of service.”
Manko, while decorating the officers, urged them to be more dedicated to duty as their promotion is a call to greater service.
