As the leadership problem in Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party thickens, the former Chairman of the party, Alhaji Mohammad Enagi, on Sunday vowed to run a parallel executive if the abnormality that took place at the state congress is not corrected.
Enagi said the last congress violated the party’s constitution.
He also said it was not the wish of the people, adding: “You cannot have democracy when the nomination forms meant for the congress is being hijacked by a single person.
“It is totally wrong and unacceptable.”
Addressing journalists in Minna, the Niger State capital, Enagi said: “We observed the discrepancies associated with the last congress as unbearable hence we call for parallel executive that will respect everyone in the party and uphold the constitution of PDP.
“What happened at that last congress is not democracy.
“People were not represented at all in any form.
“You will not have democracy if the selling of nomination forms are not made public to individuals that have interest.”
The former chairman maintained that every individual that indicated interest should be allowed to purchase the form and contest for any position he or she dims fit, stating that many people bought forms but were not allow to participate in the congress.
Enagi said: “Out of the 900 delegates accredited to vote in the congress, a candidate got 1,700 votes.
“You can see that there is a problem.
“Something is wrong with the system and that is why we are agitating to know why such irregularities in the party.”
Also speaking, Baba Shehu Agaie described what transpired at the congress as impunity on party members and called for the right thing to be done so that every aggrieved section of the party will be treated well.
A former Secretary to the Niger State Government, Ndako Idris, lamented that it was as a result this abnormalities in the party that made some prominent members to leave.
According to Idris: “We want our members to come back.
“The power belongs to the people and I know PDP will return to glory.
“We lost few prominent members because we refused to follow the constitution of the party.”
At the end of the congress, Hon. Yusuf Kure emerged Chairman, Tsalha Attaihiru Deputy Chairman and Adamu Mohammed Wanigi as State secretary.
Prominent politicians were present at the press briefing.
They included Hon. Mohammed Tsowa, a former Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly.
