According to a letter addressed to the V-C, signed by its President, Mike Femi, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin Monday, the decision on the award was sequel to an independent assessment of the performances of the nation’s universities and their Chief Executives, which took several months of painstaking efforts.

Abdulkareem made the commendation Wednesday, at the Man O’ War’ 35th Annual Passing-out-Parade and Investiture, in the institution.

Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem made this assertion Monday while welcoming the delegates to the 9th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship and the 2nd Nigeria Universities Quiz Challenge.

Issa, until the announcement of his appointment by the Federal Government as CMD of the Neuro-Psychiatric hospital, was the former Head of Department of Behavioural Sciences, University of Ilorin.

The award ceremony, which held in Abuja on Saturday, saw 30 personalities receive awards in different categories.

Abdulkareem made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen at the beginning of the 36th Convocation Ceremonies of the institution on Monday in Ilorin.

 Kunle Akogun, the university’s Corporate Affairs Director, in a statement on Saturday, said the letter conveying the award had been presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem.

The vice-chancellor pledged that the university will work with security agencies to fish out the culprit(s).

According to a Unilorin Bulletin issued on Tuesday, the appointment of the academic and administrator was announced by the UniOffa in a statement.

Abdulkarem lauded the immediate past Director of the GNS, Prof. Nasir AbdusSalam, for prudent management of the unit’s IGR, describing his stewardship as exemplary and selfless.

Abdulkareem, who gave the advice in a statement by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, described the month of Ramadan as holy and sacred.

A statement jointly signed by Dr Musa Abdullah and Ibrahim Atanda, Acting National President and Acting National General Secretary of the association respectively, dissociated itself from the letter.

A statement by the Director of Corporate Affairs of the university, Kunle Akogun, on Saturday, disclosed that Prof. Abdulkareem’s appointment was contained in a letter written to him by the Secretary-General of the Committee, Prof. Yakubu Ochefu.

The NIMC acting Coordinator in the state, Paul Popoola, disclosed this on Tuesday at the University of Ilorin, while speaking with newsmen.

The unions include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) chapters.

Abdulkareem, who stated this on Monday while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, added  that the Federal Government had yet to give a specific date for institutions of higher learning to reopen.
