Petroleum marketers in Anambra have shut their filling stations in protest for the demolition of a member’s property by the state government.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has called on the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the Petroleum Industry and Governance Bill to attract investments to the oil and gas sector.
Alhaji Debo Ahmed, the Chairman, Western Zone of IPMAN, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the refinery would address the lingering crisis of importing refined products into the country.
Alhaji Ayo Alanamu, Chairman of the depots, made the commendations in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos.
IPMAN had in July 2014 acquired over 1,000 hectares of land to build refineries that would produce 200,000 barrels of petrol per day at Itobe in Kogi State and Abbe in Bayelsa State.
Chief Ikechukwu Nwankwo, Chairman of IPMAN, Enugu Chapter, lamented the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Awka.
The Chairman of Board of Trustees of the IPMAN, Alhaji Aminu Abdulkadir, made this known in Abuja on Sunday when he responded to questions on the resurfacing of petrol queues in filling stations in Abuja and environs.
Abdulkadir, who was one of the participants at the recent meeting of critical stakeholders in the nation’s oil sector, said the demolition of the retail outlets had become necessary to ensure availability of the products.
The marketers under the aegis of IPMAN and DAPPMA told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos that this was against the backdrop of fuel hike and frequent scarcity in the country.
Addressing newsmen, the National President of IPMAN, Chinedu Okoronkwo, who made this known, appealed to the National Assembly for the speedy passage of the bill.
He also called for the re-introduction of major marketers to take charge of all fuel distribution and supply to motorists across the country.
It appealed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to rehabilitate all the moribund storage facilities within the depots, which make up the Western Zone to enhance effective distribution of petroleum products.
The marketers gave the commendation in a statement issued by their National Secretary, Alhaji Danladi Passali, after the National Executive Meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.
Alhaji Debo Ahmed, the Chairman, South West Zone of IPMAN, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
The IPMAN Kano Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Dan-Malam, made the remark while speaking with newsmen in Kano on Saturday, as the prices of the product jumped from N145 to between N180 and N200 per litre.
In a statement, Ndu Ughamadu, the corporation’s Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, said there was no plan to increase prices at the ex-depot level and pump price ahead of the forthcoming yuletide.
