A prominent Non Governmental organisation, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, has described as a primitive resort to political witch hunt and vendetta the recently announced travel ban placed on over 50 unnamed Nigerians undergoing investigation or prosecutions by anti-graft bodies on charges related to corrupt practices.

The foremost pro-democracy and non-governmental organization in the country, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, will on October 3, 2018 hold the yearly national human rights lecture during which the plights of millions of internally displaced persons in Nigeria will become the focus.

But the Rights group has equally called on President Buhari to ensure that only credible Nigerians with sound commitments and passion for altruistic, selfless, and patriotic services are appointed as Governing Council members so as to make the institution respectable, independent, credible and operationally excellent

Before attempting an understanding of the outlandish claims and even more outrageous suggestion, an appreciation of what or who HURIWA is, is perhaps necessary, for as Khalil Gibran wrote: “And you who would understand justice, how shall you unless you look upon all deeds in the fullness of light?” When looked at in the fullness of light, HURIWA is an embodiment of the character driving it, one Emmanuel Onwubiko, who has run the so-called NGO as a sole proprietorship, tool for extortion, paid activism, ethnic propaganda mouthpiece and most recently as a terror organization’s NGO arm. 

HURIWA, a pro-democracy and Non-Governmental Organisation, in a statement on Monday by the National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, and National Media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf said it has sent a team to Dakar, Senegal over the weekend to submit a petition to Mohammed Ibn Chambas, the representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for West Africa

We are aware that over a thousand places of worship for Muslims have been built over the years using legitimate donations from abroad and the heavens hasn’t fallen nor did the Director General of Department of State Services arrested or interrogated any of these Muslim leaders for accepting donations to build their places of worship from their brethren of other nationalities
