The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has described the passing of the Chief Imam of Owo and Secretary-General of the League of Imams and Alfas South West, Edo and Delta State, Sheikh Ahmad Oladoke Aladesawe, as a great loss to the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria.
Aladesawe, also Ondo State Chairman of the League of Imams and Alfas, breathed his last at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State.
He died at the age of 91 on September 15, 2025.
Reacting to the news of his demise in a statement by his Media Team on Tuesday, Abubakar commended the deceased for his dedication and service to the Muslim community, and his commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and understanding among people of different faiths.
He also extended his condolences to the family of Sheikh Aladesawe, the League of Imams and Alfas South West, Edo and Delta State, and the entire Muslim Ummah, urging them to take solace in the fact that the late cleric lived a life of service and piety.
The Sultan said: “His passing is indeed a great loss to the Muslim community, and his legacy of dedication and service will be remembered and cherished.

Sheikh Aladesawe was known for his advocacy for the promotion of Islamic values and teachings, and his efforts towards fostering unity among Muslims in the South West region of Nigeria.
