Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested three members of a tricycle theft syndicate and recovered eight stolen tricycles across the state.
The command’s spokesman, Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, linking the arrests to an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Kwakwachi Police Division.
He said: “On March 26, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., police officers on surveillance patrol along Airport Road, Kano, intercepted one Abubakar Sidi of Kunkumi Village, Kaduna State, riding a tricycle with registration number NSR 85 WD and KAROTA number KMC 1084.”
Kiyawa said the suspect failed to give a satisfactory account of the tricycle and was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department on the directive of the Commissioner of Police.
He said: “Subsequent discreet investigation revealed that the suspect deceived the tricycle owner along Emir Palace Road, Kano, and conspired with members of his syndicate to dispossess the victim of the tricycle.”
The police later arrested two accomplices, Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna.
He said: “Following their arrest, seven additional tricycles stolen by the syndicate and sold in Babura, Jigawa State, were recovered.”

Kiyawa said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and trace the rightful owners of the recovered tricycles.
He said: “We urge operators not to accept drinks or gifts from strangers and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.”
The command advised victims of similar incidents to visit the Police Public Relations Office at the Bompai headquarters for identification and recovery.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers for their professionalism and dedication.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
