The Plateau State Police Command on Friday said it had arrested a 27-year-old cattle rustler, Abdullahi Tanko, with 14 cows.
“Tanko, a resident of Makurdi, Benue State, stole the cows in Jos,” the Commissioner of Police in the state, Chris Olakpe, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos.
Olakpe said the suspect was arrested at the mining village of Naraguta, with the stolen cows.
He said: “The suspect was arrested by the vigilante group of Angwan-Rogo at about 8pm on April 15.
“When the vigilante group accosted the suspect on where he was moving with the cows at that hour, he could not provide satisfactory answer.
“One Alhaji Yusuf Dahiru of Bauchi Ring Road, Jos, had earlier lodged a complaint at Angwan-Rogo Police Station that 14 of his 74 cows had been stolen.”
The commissioner said the complainant had identified the stolen cows to be his own, adding that the suspect was currently assisting the police with vital information on cattle rustling in Plateau.
“The suspect will be charged to court after police investigation,” Olakpe said.
