Pacquiao should quit if… – Trainer

Manny Pacquiao has been told to retire by trainer Freddie Roach if he loses his next fight.

Pacquiao, a record eight-division world champion, is taking on unbeaten Australian Jeff Horn in Brisbane this Saturday.

Horn’s lack of experience at elite level, though, means the Filipino is a heavy favourite to retain his WBO Welterweight title.

But that has not stopped his long-term trainer Freddie Roach from toying with the concept of a shock defeat.

The legendary coach believes Pacquiao should hang up his gloves if he is beaten by Horn.

“It depends on how he lost but I would probably encourage him to retire,” he told Radio Australia.

“We have to win this fight. It is a crucial fight for us.

“We have to look good in this fight to get the bigger names interested.”

Pacquiao still seeks a rematch with Floyd Mayweather following his defeat in their record-breaking fight back in 2015.

And Roach knows that Pacquiao needs to produce a classy performance in order to catch Mayweather’s eye.

“I expect Manny’s best in this fight. I am looking for a big win here. We want to go on to bigger and better things,” he said.
