Factional leader of the Nigeria Football Federation, Chris Giwa, has made his intention known to attend the 66th Congress of world’s football governing body, FIFA, as Nigeria’s representative.
Giwa’s position comes just a few hours after his arch rival, Amaju Pinnick, and some other top level officials of the NFF departed for the Congress, which is holding in Mexico.
Others on the NFF team, led by Pinnick, are the 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi; and the General Secretary, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi.
But Giwa on Monday night vowed to storm the venue of the Congress at Centro Banamex in Mexico.
The Congress starts at 9:30am on Friday.
A member of the Giwa camp said late on Monday: “We are sure that the people occupying the secretariat have been served letter on Friday to quit.
“The President (Giwa) is going for the Congress in Mexico.
“All arrangements have been concluded on that.”
The spokesman of the NFF for the Pinnick camp, Ademola Olajire, however, countered the position of Giwa’s group.
Olajire said those to attend FIFA Congresses are specially invited.
He said: “Every FA President of the 209 members of FIFA is presently on the way to Mexico City.
“They are specially invited by FIFA alongside their Vice President and General Secretary.
“Nigeria’s Amaju Pinnick, Seyi Akinwunmi and Mohammed Sanusi have left for the meeting.”
