Anthony Joshua is expected to more than triple his earnings from Saturday when he takes on legendary former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
The 27-year-old will make well over £6.5 million for his third title defence against the 40-year-old in April, with huge projected pay-per-view numbers and the event expected to break the Wembley attendance record.
Before Joshua knocked out Eric Molina in Manchester on Saturday night, promoter Eddie Hearn estimated that the 2012 Olympic gold medallist had made less £15m in his career so far.
“You could say 13, 14, 15 million pounds,” the Matchroom promoter told The Telegraph.
The Molina bout was estimated to bring in about 400,000 pay-per-view buys, which would bring AJ roughly £2m.
That’s less than the £3m the Londoner made for his fight against rival Dillian Whyte, arguably his most high-profile bout so far in terms of UK audience.
Many see Joshua’s bout with Klitschko as his first encounter with world class opposition, which will be expected to bring a predicted £1.5million on Sky Sports Box Office alone – making a British record £30million.
Klitschko’s last fight, in which he suffered an upset defeat to Tyson Fury, only drew 1.714 million viewers on HBO in America.
But there is considerably more hype around Joshua in the US, with few people picking Fury to beat Klitschko before that event in Germany last December.
