Insurance FC coach Monday Odigie, has urged his players to show character ahead of the 2017/2018 Nigeria National League season, which would begin on March 3.
Odigie gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Benin.
He said that although his team defeated Delta Stars of Ughelli 3-1 in a friendly match on Friday, he needed a solid team to prosecute the NNL season.
NAN reports that Friday’s friendly game made it 11 wins from the 11 friendly matches the club played since January.
He said: “We are just staggering with the ball; the team has not taken a solid shape yet; our mode of preparation is still on, we are not ready yet.
“It is always an ideological thing with sport you don’t have a perfect team until the competition starts.”
Odigie, who was unveiled as Insurance handler in January, said the friendly games being played were meant to ensure he built a holistic team that would go to the elite league.
Speaking on Friday’s win, Odigie said: “It was a fair one, it should have been better. First half, we saw some measure of good football played by both teams”.
He added: “I think all clubs should try play good football and hope to win afterwards, and not just come with the mind to win without playing good football.
“We need to be able to create goal scoring opportunities, string passes together, so that people who are watching will have reasons to come back to watch their team play.”
