The Board of Trustees, Nigeria Police Trust Fund has commended Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State for his Infrastructural development, which it maintained has complemented policing in the State.
The commendation was an outcome of a courtesy visit on the Governor by the Team on Wednesday in Abakaliki.
The team was led by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation and member of the Board, Chief Ben Akubueze.
Akubueze, who spoke for the Board, explained that they were in the State as part of their oversight visits to the various police formations across the country.
He noted that the aim was to ascertain the strength and weaknesses of the police with a view to tightening all loopholes for effective service delivery.
The Team Leader, who acknowledged the obvious cordial relationship exiting between the State Government and the Ebonyi State Police Command, emphasised that the avalanche of good roads, street lighting and other amenities put in place by the Governor has greatly aided policing across the state.
Akubueze said: “I am highly delighted to be here today on this historic visit to you and the people of Ebonyi State.
“Your Excellency, we have been duly informed of the numerous assistance the State Government has been rendering to the command in the State with the limited resources currently at its disposal, and the warm relationship existing between the State and the Nigeria Police.
“At this juncture, therefore, I want to, on behalf of the Board of Trustees and management of Nigerian Police Trust Fund, express our profound appreciation to you and the government of this state for this warm relationship.
“I have also taken due cognisance of your very impressive strides in infrastructural development in this State.
“Your interventions in areas like street lighting and CCTV cameras in particular have contributed tremendously to security in this State.”
Akubueze further appealed for more assistance from the Government in the areas of operational vehicles as well as arms and ammunition.
Receiving the visitors, Governor Umahi appreciated the Nigeria Police Force for its sacrifices in the security of lives and property of citizens and called on citizens to get involved to ensure holistic tackling of insecurity in Nigeria.
He expressed pride that Ebonyi State was one of the most peaceful States in the country, attributing the development to cooperation between the Police, the citizens and the State Government.
He said: “Security is everyone’s business.
“So I want to commend the Nigeria Police Force.
“We can’t contest the fact that Ebonyi State remains the most peaceful and safest State in Nigeria, and it didn’t just come.
“We all fought for it together and brought peace to our people.”
