Four people have been arraigned at the Ejigbo Magistrates Court 1 in Lagos State for allegedly attacking and unleashing dog on officials of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.
The four defendants: Aisabor Joel, 27; Omonzokpea Victor, 24; Omonzokpea Ehis, 20; and Nwaocha Prosper, 18, were arraigned on February 19, 2020 on five counts charge of conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, assault of Ikeja Electricity staff, unleashing of dog on IE staff resulting in injury and unlawful damage of uniforms of staff of IE.
Counts one and two read: “That you Aisabor Joel Omonzokpea Victor, Omonzokpea Ehis and Nwaocha Prosper on 15th February, 2020, at Ikotun in the Lagos State Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. That you Aisabor Joel Omonzokpea Victor, Omonzokpea Ehis and Nwaocha Prosper on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by assaulting IKEDC staff, Olukanni Babatunde and Akanbi Adedayo, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Counts four and five state: “That you Aisabor Joel on same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District did unlawfully assaulted Olukanni Babatunde by unleashing your dog to bite him after you’ve locked the gate, which caused him bodily harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. That you Aisabor Joel Omonzokpea Victor, Omonzokpea Ehis and Nwaocha Prosper on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did unlawfully and willfully damaged the uniforms of Olukanni Babatunde and Akanbi Adedayo and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The charge against the defendants was read to them in English and their pleas taken.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and elected summary trial.
The defence counsel prayed the court to grant bail to the defendants in most liberal terms.
The defendants were admitted to bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one responsible surety each.
They were also expected to provide evidence of payment of two years tax clearance of the Lagos Statement Government and address of sureties to be verified.
The defendants were not able to meet their bail conditions and were remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Home pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned to March 30, 2020 for mention.
