The six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory received a total revenue of N1,937,036,351.75 from the Federation Account for the month of June 2013.
The revenue represents a shortfall of N276,462,344.70 (about 12.5 per cent) over the N2,213,498,696.45 received by the six area councils of Abaji, Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali for the month of May 2013.
The Minister of State for the FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, who disclosed this at the meeting of the FCT Area Councils Joint Account Allocation Committee on Thursday in Abuja, said the area councils received N147.62 million from excess crude.
Akinjide, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, FCT, Engr. John Chukwu, gave the breakdown of the allocations from the Federation Account as: Statutory Revenue Allocation, N1.024 billion; Value Added Tax, N682.48 million; N56.77 million from Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme and N25.54 million being refund by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
The Area Councils had in the preceding month received N1.059 billion from VAT, N821.59 million from Statutory Revenue, N250.35 million from Excess Crude and N56.77 million from SURE-P.
The FCT Area Councils Joint Account Allocation Committee, according to the minister, approved the transfer of N892.46 million to the FCT Universal Basic Education Board for the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries in the six area councils.
Other statutory transfers approved by the Committee include: N95.04 million for the FCT Area Councils Pension Board, being 15 per cent pension fund, N89.93 million for LEA Teachers Monetisation Entitlement, N44.27 million for health insurance contribution, N30.87 million being contribution to sanitation in the six area councils, and N19.37 million for the FCT Area Councils Service Commission being one per cent training fund.
The Abuja Municipal Area Council topped the revenue distribution for the month of June, receiving N176.81 million as against N199.85 million paid in the preceding month.
Gwagwalada and Bwari Area Councils got N132.45 million and N128.72 million, respectively, compared to N157 million and N169.12 million received for the month of May 2013.
The FCT Area Councils Joint Account Allocation Committee also distributed N113.77 million, N113.09 million and N99.22 million to Abaji, Kuje and Kwali Area Councils.
Abaji, Kuje and Kwali had received revenues of N138.59 million, N151.35 million and N138.61 million for May.
The JAAC meeting was attended by the Secretary of Area Council Services Secretariat, Alhaji Yahaya Ibrahim Gwagwa; Director of Establishment and Training, Alhaji Nuhu Ahmed; Abuja Municipal Area Council Chairman, Hon. Micah Jiba; Bwari Area Council Chairman, Hon. Yohanna Peter Ushafa; Kuje Area Council Chairman, Hon. Ishyaku Tete Shaban; Kwali Area Council Chairman, Hon. Daniel Ibrahim; Abaji Area Council Chairman, Hon. Yahaya Garba Gawu; and Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Jibrin Giri.
Others at the meeting were: Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of State on Area Councils and Resettlement, Alhaji Yusuf Tsaiyabu; Auditor General of FCT Area Councils, Dr. Fred Omaka; Director of Satellite Towns Development Agency, Alhaji Tukur Ibrahim; Head of Environment, STDA, Segun Olusa; Special Assistant to the Minister of State on Environment, Ayo Sotinrin; andSpecial Assistant to the Minister of State on Area Councils, Alhaji Ibraheem Ibraheem.
