But Tony Pulis’ side responded positively, equalising through a James McClean header seven minutes before half time.
Harry Kane came closest to restoring Tottenham’s lead as the striker’s shot was scrambled away off the line shortly after the break.
Jonas Olsson came close to securing all three points for West Brom.
First forcing a fine save out of Hugo Lloris from close range, before firing a header wide from a corner.
The result means Tottenham extend their unbeaten record to 14 games – their longest since 1984.
West Brom meanwhile move onto 19 points but remain 13th in the Premier League table.
